Saturday’s game helped to raise a further £300 for Prostate Cancer UK and attracted the biggest crowd of the season.

325 people turned up to watch Hallam FC versus Hemsworth Miners at Sandygate Road, tripling the club’s highest home attendance this season.

Micah Bishop opened the scoring for Hallam FC with an impressive 30 yard volley which lifted the already excitable home crowd.

However, goals from Bill Law and Shane Kelsey, secured victory for the visitors with Hemsworth Miners winning 2-1.

Despite the result, Non-League Day was far from disappointing as fans donated a further £300 to Prostate Cancer UK, in addition to the £5000 raised last week.

Pete Wilding, the event organiser, said: “Today, really, for every club involved is about getting the club out there, getting people involved – who perhaps, never even heard of us – to come down.

“Today was fantastic. Obviously the result is a bit disappointing but hopefully people had a good enough time here and they’ll come back. I mean, we’re a family friendly club and we’re involved in the local community and it’s great to have people down here.”

“It’s absolutely wonderful. We’ve raised about £5000 last Sunday and because Prostate Cancer UK is the charity partner of the Non-League Day UK, we decided to just carry that on.

“They’ve left their shakers and their buckets here and there are plenty of opportunities so hopefully, we’ve raised a few hundred for them as well.”

Hallam FC attracted fans by offering free entry to season ticket holders of any club and a discounted rate for students, children and OAPs, resulting in the biggest league crowd of the season.

Pete Wilding, said: “Hopefully, we put on a good day for people and we’ll get a few returning customers.

“It all adds to the atmosphere, it’s been a great atmosphere today and credit to Hemsworth as well they brought quite a few fans with them and it ended up being a great play off.”
